Media Equipment in Lecture Halls & Classrooms
Lecture Halls & Classroom Equipment
Significant changes have been made to rooms across the campus. These upgrades include new projectors, touch panels, ceiling mounted cameras and microphones. This will allow every space to have lecture capture capabilities as well as upgraded technology for use with your peripheral devices (Laptops).
All General Lecture classrooms (not including Sierra Hall) are equipped with a(n):
- Projector
- Instructor-space facing camera
- Ceiling mounted microphone and speakers so faculty and students can interact in real-time with synchronous online students or leverage the space for lecture-capture
- Computer pre-equipped with Zoom
- Document camera
- Podium control panel

Learning Technologies (Tools)
Academic Technology supports a number of software and hardware tools and techniques to assist faculty in creating technology-supported learning environments. The Resource Guide outlines many of the options for using technology in course development. Many of these tools are available at no charge or at a reduced rate.
CSUN offers several university-supported learning technologies that you can use to enhance your teaching and learning. In the list below, you'll find the name, a brief description, and link to learn more about each technology. myCSUNbox is CSUN's secure cloud-based file storage and collaboration solution that gives students, faculty, and staff the ability to access content at any time, from any device.
Camtasia is a powerful screen recording and video editing tool available to CSUN faculty and staff. Camtasia lets you record video through your webcam, capture your screen, and edit your video along with providing transitions and other media components.
Canvas has all the features of a modern learning management system including functionality for managing enrollments, sharing documents, submitting assignments, and assigning grades, as well as personalized features for individual students.
Canvas Ally is a CSUN service to help make course materials in Canvas more accessible. Canvas Ally provides faculty with feedback on the accessibility of course content in Canvas using a visual dial and provides suggested step-by-step instructions to improve the accessibility of the content.
Canvas ePortfolio is CSUN’s electronic portfolio network for students and alumni! Showcase your work, projects and activities -- whether you are just getting started at CSUN, about to graduate, or in-between.
Canvas Insights is a tool custom-built by CSUN allowing faculty to easily communicate with individual students in their classes based on an early alert.
Canvas Studio allows you to engage with your students using video. Record yourself and your computer screen, share videos with your students and inject questions into your videos. Also provides analytics.
EquatIO is an an equation editor that creates and remediates STEM content. EquatIO features such as speak, type, handwrite, mobile using camera capture, or screenshot reader.
GoReact is an interactive cloud-based platform for feedback, grading, and critiquing of student video assignments. It is frequently used for ASL, Communications, Teacher Development, Sales Training, Clinical Training, and Performing Arts courses.
Hypothes.is brings annotations to Canvas helping students with reading comprehension and developing critical thinking about course materials. This tool also enables students to collaborate on understanding and developing ideas about their readings.
Labster gives students access to a realistic lab experience that will let them perform experiments and practice their skills in a fun and risk-free learning environment. Labster currently offers over 140 simulations on Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Medicine and Physics.
MS Teams is a part of the Microsoft Suite that allows everyone at CSUN with an internet connection to chat, meet, call and collaborate in one place, no matter where they are.
Panopto is CSUN’s online video platform for recording, hosting, and sharing video. With Panopto, you can simultaneously record video from a webcam, capture your screen, and audio from a microphone, or upload your own video files. You can also add questions to videos, create playlists, and get analytics on student viewing.
Pronto is a communication hub created for the everyday user. It connects people via chat and video, so they can learn faster, work smarter, and communicate seamlessly with each other or their instructor through real-time text messaging in Canvas or the Pronto smartphone app.
Respondus
Respondus is a Windows-based authoring tool that makes it easy to create and manage exams for Canvas and other learning management systems. To get Respondus, visit the CSUN Software Downloads page.
Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment during an online quiz or exam. Instructors may use this tool for their Canvas quizzes, either as part of a myCSUNtablet course or any other course.
Snagit is a screen capture tool that lets you create and edit images, record your webcam, microphone and screen. Snagit also lets you open your video projects directly in Camtasia.
Turnitin is an online plagiarism detection tool, which screens student work against a digital database of publications, papers, and websites. In addition to plagiarism checking, Turnitin offers various grading tools for annotating and commenting on student work. Turnitin is available to use with Canvas assignments.
Zoom, CSUN’s video and web conferencing tool, is available to all students, faculty, and staff. Zoom allows for video, audio, and screen sharing between up to 300 participants.
