Azure Dev Tools for Teaching
Azure Dev Tools for Teaching is a Microsoft program that provides faculty and students with access to professional developer and design tools at no cost for academic purposes. It enables educators to integrate cutting-edge Microsoft technologies into their curriculum, helping students gain hands-on experience with industry-relevant software such as Visual Studio, SQL Server, and Azure services. Faculty can use these tools to create engaging coursework, conduct research, and develop applications, fostering real-world skills in cloud computing, software development, and data management.
Azure Dev Tools for Teaching program features (For educational use only):
- $100 Azure credit (through Azure for Students, no credit card required)
- Access to the following Microsoft software titles, among others:
- Access
- Visio
- Project Professional
- MS SQL
- Microsoft R
- Visual Studio
- Access to learning resources
Getting Started
To get started, visit the Microsoft Azure Dev Tools page.
- Select the Sign in button.
- Log in with your CSUN faculty or student email address and password.
- Enter the necessary information to validate your CSUN status.
- Accept the terms to complete the log in process.
FAQs
This program is strictly intended for educational purposes—primarily to support faculty teaching, student learning, and academic research in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines. Azure Dev Tools for Teaching is not available for staff or faculty for infrastructure or administrative use.
Faculty can use the tools to develop coursework, but IT staff cannot use them for managing campus infrastructure, administration, or non-academic projects.
For infrastructure-related Azure services, your department would need a separate Azure subscription through standard licensing agreements with Microsoft.
Make sure that you're using your CSUN credentials to sign in to Azure Dev Tools for Teaching. It might help to open a private browsing session.

No, your Azure Dev Tools for Teaching subscription doesn't include Azure credit. But you can sign up for Azure for Students, which gives you $100 worth of Azure credit that you can use to pay for Azure services. For more information, go to the Azure for Students home page.
Yes. Students receive unlimited software usage to further their learning and research efforts.
Yes. A faculty member who is enrolled in an approved course is eligible to install Azure Dev Tools for Teaching software on a personal computer for noncommercial use.
Students access the available software in the Education Hub Store, which is part of the Azure portal. Students must sign in to the Azure portal with their school (or Azure Dev Tools for Teaching) credentials.
