Security Awareness Training

In accordance with system-wide Information Security policy, faculty, staff and student employees are required to complete Information Security Awareness training on a periodic basis. Access this page for information about using the training portal and other security tips.

Phishing

Higher education continues to be targeted by fraudulent email messages and ransomware attempts. Despite taking preventive measures, phishing email attacks continue to be sent from compromised faculty and staff accounts. Learn more about identifying and protection from phishing attempts.

Malware / Ransomware

Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents or limits users from accessing their system, either by locking the system's screen or by locking the users' files unless a ransom is paid. Learn ways to protect your device from malware infections and prevent data loss.

FERPA (Opt in/out)

FERPA is the protection of student academic records. They can't be released to anyone but yourself without your permission. To Opt out, go to the Admissions and Records page.

Copyright Policy / DMCA

Downloading, sharing, and distributing copyrighted media without authorization from the owner, constitutes breaking the law. If the file or media can be purchased from the original owner, chances are it is copyrighted. Even downloading images from the internet that are copyright protected is illegal. Learn more about what constitutes as breaking the law and how to file-share legally. Users caught violating the DMCA on CSUN's network will be added to the blocklist for abuse.

Ninjio is an animated series, inspired by real events and security breaches, that explains different topics in Cybersecurity, including how these breaches could have been avoided.
