Student Housing Network Information
Student Housing is proud to offer 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless network connections to all residents of the Apartments and Suites at University Park. The wireless network allows users to have all the conveniences of a wired network, except now you are mobile! Bring your computer anywhere in housing and most places on campus.
All CSUN students who have a valid user ID and password can access the wireless network. You can access the wireless network by joining the CSUN network. Please visit https://www.csun.edu/it/wireless for instructions on how to connect your devices to the campus wireless network.
Wireless Network
The wireless network is available in both village and park apartments.
- Encrypted wireless network (eduroam)
CSUN's encrypted wireless network (eduroam) requires a one-time login after the initial setup. Please visit https://www.csun.edu/it/wireless for instructions on how to connect your devices to the campus wireless network.
Gaming devices (e.g., Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.) and most Smart TVs and streaming media devices are not compatible with eduroam but are compatible with the unencrypted wireless network (csun_prt_devices).
- Unencrypted wireless network (CSUN)
Launch your browser and enter your CSUN user ID and password. If you are connecting for the first time, select CSUN from your wireless network options.
CSUN's unencrypted wireless network (CSUN) does not provide a secure connection to the Internet. For a secure connection, use the Eduroam encrypted wireless network.
- Unencrypted wireless network (csun_prt_devices)
Gaming devices and Smart TVs/streaming media devices (Roku, Apple TV, etc.) are compatible with this network. Devices incapable of connecting to the secure campus EDUROAM WPA-2 Enterprise network, such as Smart TVs and Gaming Consoles, can be registered on the Student Housing Portal for the csun_prt_devices wireless network. Please login to the Student Housing Portal to create a new Wireless Device Registration Request. Please have your device's MAC Address available.
Wired Network
The wired network is available in park apartments. Wired network connection capabilities are in every room in university park apartments. Residents need to supply their own network cable. Any standard Ethernet cable will work on the network. Usually these cables are referred to as CAT-5 cables, but they can also appear as CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables. Although these cables are slightly different, all will operate the same.
Personal Wireless Networks
Personal wireless networks can interfere with the Student Housing wireless network causing other residents to potentially lose their network connections and are not allowed in Student Housing.
Please note, operating your own wireless access points or routers constitutes a violation of the Student Housing Computer Network Access Agreement and Campus Network Policies and will result in your immediate removal from the network.
