Protection for Personally Owned Windows Devices

Virus and ransomware attacks typically target devices with out-of-date software. To ensure that your personally owned Windows devices are protected, we recommend the following processes, depending on which version of Windows you currently use.

Windows 10:

  • Go to Start > Settings
  • Select Update & Security
  • Select Check for Updates
  • Install any available updates

Windows 8:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Change PC Settings
  • Select Windows Update
  • Select Check for updates now
  • Install any available updates

Windows 7:

  • Go to Start > Control Panel
  • Select System
  • Select Windows Update
  • Select Check For Updates
  • Install any available updates

Depending on how many updates are needed, it could take 30+ minutes. Once updates are installed, a restart may be required. After restarting the computer, go back through the same process again to ensure there are no additional updates required.
