Pronto Transition
Pronto is among several software licenses previously funded through the Federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) that will not be renewed. After the license end date of June 30, 2025, CSUN faculty, staff, and students will no longer be able to access Pronto through a campus license. Visit the 2025 HEERF Software Tools Transition webpage for background information and the full list of impacted tools.
Overview
Pronto has served as a messaging and collaboration tool, supporting communication between students and instructors within Canvas. To ensure a smooth transition, the Division of Information Technology is evaluating Microsoft Teams and Zoom Chat as alternatives. While both platforms are widely used at CSUN, additional testing is being undertaken to determine how best to implement the chat features in instructional settings. We will continue to update this page with the result of this testing and our recommendations.
Options for Spring 2025
Continue to Use Pronto
Faculty may continue to use Pronto as usual through the end of the current licensing term on June 30, 2025. After this date, Pronto will no longer be accessible to faculty, staff, or students.
Pilot Microsoft Teams or Zoom Chat
Faculty currently using Pronto are encouraged to consider piloting Microsoft Teams or Zoom Chat as potential alternatives. These tools offer robust messaging and collaboration features, such as group and individual chat, file sharing, and video conferencing. If you are interested in participating in the pilot program, please contact us at ftc@csun.edu. Your feedback during the pilot phase will help shape the implementation of these tools for instructional use.
