CalPERS Long-Term Care Coverage

Long-term care refers to the services available to people who have difficulty managing the activities of daily living due to illness, injury, disability, cognitive disorder or aging. Long-term care coverage helps pay for the high cost of care when one needs assistance with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring (such as from a bed to a chair), continence, eating or a severe cognitive impairment.

CalPERS has suspended open enrollment due to current uncertainty in the long-term care market and is no longer accepting applications.  Therefore, effective June 17, 2020 and until further notice, the CalPERS Long-Term Care Program will not be accepting new applications for coverage.

In November 2020, the CalPERS board approved a rate increase on all Long-Term Care Program policies that is being phased in over two years. The first increase of 52% took effect beginning in November 2021. The second increase of up to 25% will take effect beginning in November 2022.
