Income Protection
The following benefits provide employees with a source of income should they become disabled and unable to perform normal duties at work.
To be eligible for NDI and IDL coverage, the employee must be a CalPERS member. The Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI) program provides wage continuation for employees unable to work due to non-work-related injuries or illnesses, including pregnancy-related conditions. The Industrial Disability Leave (IDL) program offers wage continuation for employees injured or ill due to work-related causes, in place of Workers' Compensation benefits.
The Industrial Disability Leave (IDL) Program provides wage continuation for CSU employees who suffer work-related injuries or illnesses, replacing Workers' Compensation benefits.
The CSU offers a wage continuation program, Non-industrial Disability Insurance (NDI), as an alternative to State Disability Insurance (SDI) for eligible employees who experience wage loss due to a non-work-related injury or disability. Both programs are managed by the California Employment Development Department (EDD).
California State University faculty and staff may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance (UI) through the State Employment Development Department (EDD) if they separate from employment or experience a reduction in timebase.
CalPERS Long-Term Care provides coverage for individuals needing assistance with daily activities due to illness, disability, or aging. Current participants can access more details through the Long-Term Care Policy Participant Center portal.
