Repayment: Begins within 60 days of the final disbursement; there is not a grace period.

  • Students must be in a master's or doctoral degree program.
  • Students must be enrolled at least half time.
  • Students must be achieving satisfactory academic progress as established by the Northridge Financial Aid & Scholarship Department.
  • Students may borrow up to the full cost of your education as determined by the Northridge Financial Aid & Scholarship Department.

  1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file. Apply for other types of aid first; students must apply for the maximum amount in the Stafford loan programs before applying for a PLUS loan.
  2. Submit the PLUS loan request form under "Forms & Documents" for the current academic year to the Financial Aid & Scholarship Department. Do not use the "Request PLUS Loan" link found at StudentLoans.gov; Northridge does not accept PLUS applications submitted via StudetntLoans.gov.
  3. Complete the electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN).
  4. Complete Loan Entrance Counseling (LEC). Make sure you select the "Entrance Counseling" link.
  5. The PLUS loan award is subject to a credit decision from the Department of Education. If a PLUS loan is added to a student's award package, it does not guarantee loan approval.
