Receiving & Understanding Your Pay

At CSUN, we want to make sure you understand how and when you receive your pay, and the different ways to access it. This page aims to ensure all employees have the necessary details for a smooth experience with payroll at CSUN. Here's everything you need to know!

Instead of a traditional paycheck, you will receive a Pay Warrant. The State Controller's Office (SCO) in Sacramento handles this process and issues these pay warrants to the campus.

Your pay is issued monthly:

  • Salaried Employees: Pay is typically issued on the last day of the month or the first day of the following month.
  • Hourly Employees, Student Workers, Shift Differentials, Bonuses, Stipends, and Other Special Payments: These are paid on the 15th of each month. If the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, payday will be on the previous business day.

You can view the current Pay/Payroll Calendar here.

  • For Non-Direct Deposit Employees: If you haven’t set up Direct Deposit, you’ll need to check with your department to find out where and how to pick up your pay warrant.

  • For Direct Deposit Employees: Your pay will be directly deposited into your designated bank account on payday.

Important Tip: Make sure your home address is up-to-date in the CSUN portal to ensure you get your pay warrant without any delays. To do this:

  1. Go to the HR tab in the CSUN portal.
  2. Click on Personal Information.
  3. Select Update My Personal Information.

Interested in setting up Direct Deposit? Learn more and sign up here.

For a detailed breakdown of what’s included on your pay warrant, check out the Pay Warrant Legend here.

You can also explore the Payroll Basics website to get an overview of the payroll process.

Access your pay details and IRS Form W-2 anytime by registering for Cal Employee Connect (CEC). This secure site allows you to view up to 4 years of your earnings statements, W-2 forms, and personal information.

CEC is available for both current and former state employees. For more information, visit Cal Employee Connect here.
