Holiday Campus Closure

Parents and Guardians

Welcome parents and guardians to CSUN’s student organizations page. We hope you and your student(s) find the campus involvement opportunities inspiring and useful. Below is information about how students will benefit from being involved in a student organization. Furthermore, we have information about common conduct concerns that can be viewed on our Permits and Policies page.

We have almost 300 student organizations that represent a broad range of areas, including academic, community service, religious, cultural, political, arts, athletic and social. We encourage you to support your student getting involved and finding a meaningful connection on campus. Students tell us that some of the benefits they gained from their involvement are:

  • Building skills like public speaking, organization and leadership;
  • Assisting them in discovering their professional interests;
  • Getting to know one's self and personal strengths;
  • Connecting to their heritage;
  • Having an opportunity to give back to the community;
  • Networking with students, faculty, staff and alumni;
  • Feeling like a part of the CSUN family; and
  • Helping them persist in their academic program.

Policy on hazing

You have probably heard the word "hazing" and want to understand what role it plays in student clubs or organizations. Hazing has been defined as "any activity expected of someone joining a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses or endangers, regardless of the participants willingness to participate." CSUN does not take this issue lightly. In addition to providing educational opportunities for club and organization leaders, we investigate any alleged hazing incident. For more information about laws regarding hazing, please see our full policy.
