Matty's Closet is here to help CSUN students rise with confidence by providing free, professional attire for interviews, new jobs, networking events, and conferences. Whether you need an outfit to make a great first impression or just want to feel more prepared for the workplace, we've got you covered-literally!
All clothing is provided through a personalized student styling experience, where you'll receive guidance in selecting workplace-ready attire that fits your career goals.
What is Matty’s Closet?
Matty’s Closet is a free career clothing program made possible by the generous donations of CSUN staff, faculty, employer partners, and the community. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to work-ready clothing that helps them present themselves with confidence in any professional setting. Established in Fall 2019, this initiative has already helped countless Matadors step into their careers with style and assurance.
Eligibility:
- Currently enrolled CSUN students
- Students may visit once per semester
- Each semester, students may choose up to three professional clothing items or one complete professional outfit.

Volunteer with Matty’s!
Volunteer with Matty’s Closet to help Matadors find and select free, professional attire for interviews and career events. You’ll sort donations, assist with styling appointments, and support students as they build confidence in their career journeys. Submit the form below to show your interest—whether you’re representing your class, a student organization, or signing up on your own.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Opportunities to volunteer with Matty’s Closet in support of its mission may include:
- Tabling at Career Center events on campus
- Assist with sorting, steaming and tagging clothing items
- One-on-one styling student opportunities during drop-ins
- Social media marketing outreach
- Retail store partnership research/outreach
- Donation Drives pop up (fall/spring), where students can collect gently used professional clothing items

Donation Criteria
Acceptable workplace-ready donations include dry cleaned or prewashed, gently used, no stains and smoke free items.
Matty’s Closet is in need of the following items:
- Men’s button-down shirts
- Women’s tops (no sheer materials, no tank tops, modest neckline)
- Skirts (that ends below the knee)
- Blazers
- Pants
- Dresses
Non-acceptable items include:
- Undergarments
- Bathing Suits
- Sweatpants or sweatshirts
- Costumes (Human or Animal)
- Prom dresses, gala dresses or formal gowns
- Worn-out or excessively used items
- Shoes (only new)

- For your convenience we are only offering drop-ins at Matty’s Closet, please check out our website and Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/mattysclosetcsun/?hl=en for current drop-in schedule.
- To schedule an appointment for other Career Center resources you can visit us at Bayramian Hall 413, call the front desk at (818) 677-2878, or stop by for drop-in services during operating hours posted on the website.
Matty’s Closet is here to serve all CSUN students. Therefore, we provide up to three professional clothing items (or one outfit) per semester
All clothing provided by Matty’s Closet is donation based through generous donations of CSUN staff, faculty, employer partners, and the community
- Matty’s Closet is open to registered CSUN students once per semester. We occasionally extend hours during summer and winter sessions—check our schedule for availability. While visits to Matty’s Closet are limited per semester, students can access all other Career Center services unlimited times throughout the academic year.
- Recent graduates are also welcome to use all Career Center resources, including Matty’s Closet, for up to one year after graduation.
- Thank you for your interest in partnering with us! Please submit Matty’s Closet Volunteer Program form.

While we don’t provide exact measurements, our team is happy to help you find the perfect outfit based on what’s available in our inventory. Drop by during our operating hours, and one of our stylists will assist you in finding your ideal fit!
We strive to maintain current inventory across all sizes, but as a donation-based program, we can't always guarantee specific items will be available. That said, we're committed to doing everything we can to serve each student's needs. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to visit us to explore what we have in stock!
Donations FAQ’s
If you wish to donate clothing to Matty’s Closet, please leave your donation in a marked Matty’s Closet Donation Box located around campus. Please see below for posted locations. For larger donations, or other accommodations, please send us an email at mattys.closet@csun.edu
We greatly appreciate your donations. If requested, we currently provide donation receipts for all Matty’s Closet donations.
Please send us an email with your request to mattys.closet@csun.edu and we will happily provide you with a donation box to help build our inventory.
