This program allows student assistants and supervisors to learn skills that future employers are looking for. Through the 9-month program, student assistants will:

  • Engage in an online course

  • Meet with peer mentors

  • Access to a designated career advisor

  • Learn from CSUN alumni who were student assistants.

Upon completion of the program, students will earn a career readiness certificate to add to their resume and LinkedIn profile!

From Here to Career starts in September of the Fall Semester and ends in May of the Spring Semester.

If you are interested, check in with your supervisor and ask them to register for the program.

If you are a supervisor, please complete the following registration form: FHTC Registration 24-25.

  • Supportive Supervisor Engagement - Through monthly check-ins, we will guide you in applying career fundamentals, fostering growth, and enhancing your professional development.
  • Alumni Networking Opportunities - Learn from CSUN alumni who used their on-campus employment to help them pursue their career goals. Alumni Meet-Up sessions give FHTC participants the opportunity to learn from fellow Matador's experiences.
  • Online Resources Engagement - Our program encourages you to explore a variety of online resources. These tools empower you to stay informed about industry trends, polish your skills, and stay ahead in an ever-evolving job market.
  • Minimal Time Investment - Engaging with the program takes only 30 minutes a month, seamlessly fitting into your job duties and professional growth plans.
  • Access to Skill Toolbox - Students gain access to a toolbox of information and workshops. This resource equips them with insights into sought-after skills in entry-level applicants, giving you an edge in the job hunt.
  • End-of-Year Celebration – Culminating event that celebrates students' and supervisors' engagement in the program. Participants receive their certificates and plaques for successfully completing all program requirements.

To participate in this program, there are certain requirements a Student Employee must meet:

  • The student employee’s supervisor (CSUN Faculty or Staff Member) must complete the registration form.
  • Student employees must be willing to complete 9 canvas modules, 2 advising sessions with the From Here to Career Student Employment Advisor (1 per semester), and discuss progress at monthly check-ins with their supervisor.

From Here to Career not only aims to support students in their on-campus job but also support Staff and Faculty as they take on the Supervisor role for student assistants.

From Here to Career offers support by:

  • Providing a structured professional development program you can implement as part of your student employee’s position.

  • Providing access to CareerLink’s Supervisor Toolkit.

  • Providing Supervisor Orientation and Training sessions in September.

  • Providing an opportunity for supervisors to build community and exchange best practices for Supervisors through Canvas discussion boards.

If you are ready to take advantage of From Here to Career and integrate this program as a part of your student's job duties and professional development, please complete the following registration form: FHTC Registration 24-25.

If you would like to schedule a time for us to present about our career readiness program to your department, please email isabel.casas@csun.edu to set up a time we can visit your department.

When is the program start date?

  • Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

  • *Registered students and supervisors will receive access to their respective canvas courses as well.

When is the registration deadline?

  • We will be accepting registrations until Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, at 5 pm or until we reach program capacity under the discretion of the FHTC team.

How many students are eligible to participate in the program for the 2024-25 academic year?

  • This year our program capacity is 50 student participants.

How many student employees can I register?

  • We have a student-to-supervisor ratio of 3-to-1. Supervisors can only enroll a maximum of 3 student employees they are directly supervising in order to ensure the quality of the monthly required supervisor check-ins. This will also allow other departments to enroll participants as well.

When is the next upcoming info session?

I am interested in the program but currently do not have any student employees to enroll. What should I do?

I have a graduate student that works in our department, would they be eligible to participate?

  • Yes, graduate student assistants are eligible to participate in the program.

What is the time commitment for supervisor participants?

  • This program is a cohort format and is a 9-month time commitment. Supervisors must conduct 30-minute monthly check-ins with their student employee(s)s to further discuss course modules. A set of suggested questions are provided to guide the conversation with your student employee(s).

How will the program benefit me?

  • By participating, you'll gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel. Employers seek candidates with a strong foundation in career readiness, making you an appealing prospect for future opportunities.

What are NACE Career Readiness Competencies?

  • The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Competencies are a set of skills valued by employers. Mastering these competencies enhances your employability and helps you excel in a competitive job market.

I am expected to graduate in Fall 2024 semester. Would it be possible to still participate?

  • We have implemented a cohort model where all student employees and supervisors are required to participate for the entire 9-month commitment. All student participants must be employed by CSUN for the entire academic year. If you graduate in Fall 2024, then this would make you ineligible for the program.

Can students register themselves for the program?

  • No, direct supervisors must enroll themselves and their student employees in the program by filling out our official registration form.

What are the requirements for students to successfully complete the program and earn their certificates?

  • Complete 1 Canvas module monthly (asynchronously).

  • Attend 1 alumni networking event per semester.

  • Attend 1 advising session with FHTC Student Employment Advisor per semester.

  • Complete monthly check-ins with your supervisors.

Are there specific meeting dates students will need to attend and whether the modules students are completing are done asynchronously?

  • The modules completed are done asynchronously and depend on when the student wants to get them done (we estimate a 30-minute-a-month time commitment).
