Frequently Asked Questions

Our program sponsors men’s, women’s and co-ed recreational teams in sports ranging from archery and water polo to ice hockey and rugby. Visit the Available Sports page for a full list of clubs.

First, it’s a good idea to gauge student interest in your club. Once you’ve established that people are interested, you must meet with the Sport Clubs program coordinator to discuss the procedure for becoming an official club. After you’ve met with the coordinator, you must attend the new club workshop in the Matador Involvement Center (MIC) located on the east side of the University Student Union (USU). You will receive information on how to become a student organization at the workshop. If there is interest in a club that was once active, you may recharter the club.

Due to insurance limitations, only CSUN students may participate in the Sport Clubs program.

The number of weekly practices and competitions vary widely for each club. Some clubs practice up to five days a week and compete every weekend, while others practice just one day a week and compete once a semester. You can contact the club that you are interested in to find out specific practice and competition information.

Most clubs require their members to pay annual or semester dues. Some clubs also require specific equipment that may add to the overall costs. Costs vary widely, so contact the club to find out specific information and discuss special circumstances.

The Sport Clubs program provides students with excellent leadership opportunities. Most clubs have a full roster of officers, including a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Some clubs also have additional officers depending on the needs of their organization.

Additionally, all sport club members are eligible to run for a position on the Sport Clubs Executive Council, which is comprised of a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. The program also provides members with the opportunity to participate in special recreation projects and committees.
