The University Student Union (USU) Board of Directors is a student-led, action-oriented team dedicated to making a difference for every Matador. They are committed to making many important decisions that improve your campus life.

Over the last few years, the Board has been responsible for significant new additions to the USU including the Student Recreation Center, Oasis Wellness Center, DREAM Center, Veterans Resource Center, Pride Center and the future Valera NEST. They bring you popular USU events like Matador NightsCarnaval and Crunch Time, and organize a number of exciting opportunities to connect you to your CSUN community.

That’s why it’s so important to vote in the USU Board of Directors and Associated Students Elections — because the student leaders you elect will get things done for you and make the important decisions that improve our campus.

Communication Studies

Alexia Aguilar is committed to ensuring that every student not only succeeds but feels supported and valued throughout their journey at CSUN. With experience serving on the USU’s Facilities & Operations Committee and as a current Peer Mentor in the CSUN Mentorship Program, she is passionate about improving campus accessibility and expanding resources for students. Honored to be running for candidacy, Alexia is determined to be a strong voice for her peers and create a lasting impact on campus life.

Graduate Student:
Engineering Management

Passionate about leadership, problem-solving, and student advocacy, Adarsh Degala aims to enhance student engagement, optimize resources, and promote inclusivity within the USU. With experience in operations and management, he brings an analytical approach to decision-making. As a Master’s student in Engineering Management at CSUN, he envisions a more transparent, student-focused USU. He hopes to strengthen career development, mentorship, and networking opportunities, ensuring a more connected and empowered CSUN community.

Cameron Gonzalez is a third year marketing major and business law minor, who is deeply committed to utilizing her academic background to inspire and guide fellow students toward success. Cameron Gonzalez believes in the power of collaboration and effective communication to foster positive change within the student body and campus community. As a member of the USU Board of Directors, Cameron Gonzalez will advocate for resources and opportunities that empower students to thrive academically, socially, and professionally. Cameron Gonzalez is excited at the opportunity to apply her studies to her work and aims to learn how to navigate policies and legal frameworks, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. Cameron Gonzalez is dedicated to helping students grow, connect, and achieve their fullest potential while making a lasting impact on the university.

Moe Myint Hein

Undergraduate Student:
Accounting

Moe Myint Hein is a junior Accounting major who brings diverse leadership and global experiences to the USU Board. As Controller of CSUN ALPFA and a VITA tax preparer, he is dedicated to empowering students through financial literacy and inclusive programming. His background in international student leadership and business strategy adds a unique voice to student advocacy. Moe is passionate about building a supportive, engaging campus environment where all students can thrive.

Mahi Viralkumar

Computer Science

Mahi Kachhadiya, a Computer Science major, mentor, and Math tutor, is committed to making the University Student Union (USU) a vibrant reflection of CSUN students’ needs and aspirations. Serving on the DEI and Facilities and Operations Committees, she understands the importance of creating spaces where all students feel recognized and supported. It’s time to turn empathy into action, enhance resources, and make the USU a place where every student thrives.

Epidemiology

Karim Kouatly (He/Him) is excited to run for a position on the Board of Directors (BOD) of the University Student Union (USU) at CSUN. As a graduate student majoring in epidemiology, they are deeply committed to fostering a healthier, more inclusive, and supportive campus environment. With nearly three years of experience working at the USU and almost two years of dedicated service on the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) committee, they bring valuable insight and a strong dedication to equity and representation.

Throughout their time at CSUN and the USU, Karim Kouatly has actively contributed to initiatives that promote equity, celebrate diversity, and strengthen student engagement and belonging. Their firsthand experience has equipped them with a thorough understanding of the needs and concerns of the CSUN community, and they are passionate about expanding campus resources, strengthening student engagement, and fostering a more accessible environment.

By bringing their passion for inclusion, advocacy skills, and leadership experience to the BOD, Karim Kouatly aims to help shape a campus where every student feels valued, heard, and empowered.

Through his tenure, Alejandro aims to gain a deeper understanding of university governance, so that he may exhibit the necessary leadership skills to excel in an advocacy role. Through prior experience, Alejandro has reinforced his passion for student engagement and is eager to contribute to the mission of the University Student Union. Alejandro embodies key themes of resilience and adaptability, allowing him to navigate challenges with determination and an open mind. His ability to listen and learn in response to the needs of students ensures that he will do whatever it takes to foster positive change within the USU.
