IRS Form 1098-T FAQs
Students provide consent to electronic 1098-T format upon enrollment.
The 1098-T form is intended to help students and families in determining if you are eligible for an Education Tax Credit. 1098-T statements are available on or before January 31 for the prior tax year.
Electronic 1098-T Statement Option: To continue to promote sustainability and our paperless processes, upon enrolling for classes, CSUN is offering all students an electronic 1098-T form option for IRS federal reporting of the Education Tax Credit benefits. By consenting to receive an electronic form you will be able to view, print, and save the form via the myNorthridge portal (see "CAN I GET COPIES OF FORM 1098-T FOR CURRENT AND PRIOR YEARS" below). You will not receive a paper form through the mail. Your consent will be on record until you withdraw your consent; at which time any future paper 1098-T form will be mailed to the address listed on the University’s record.
Students may access their Electronic Form 1098-T via their CSUN portal account any time after January 25th (estimated date).

No. The address shown on Form 1098-T is irrelevant for IRS income tax filing purposes. The single most important information on the form is your social security number or individual taxpayer identification number.
Reporting to the IRS depends primarily on your SSN or ITIN. It is very important for you to have the correct information on file with the University. Please remit prior to the last day of instruction for the term.
Follow these steps to have a corrected Form 1098-T generated:
Step 1: Complete a W-9s form. You can find the form at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9s.pdf. Please read and complete the form per the instructions and bring it to Admissions & Records in Person. You will also need your Social Security Card or Individual Taxpayer Identification letter (from the IRS) and your student ID (for identification purposes).
Step 2: If you have already corrected your social security number (SSN) or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) through Admissions & Records and your 1098-T for 2022 is still incorrect, please contact Student Accounting by submitting a correction request no later than March 14, 2023 via email at sfservices@csun.edu.
NOTE: The University cannot advise you on your tax situation; only you and your Tax Professional can determine your eligibility for a credit. This website is informational only and should not be considered as tax opinion or advice. It serves to alert students that they may be eligible for federal income tax education credits.
Receipt of Form 1098-T does not indicate eligibility for the tax credit. IMPORTANT: It is the responsibility of each taxpayer to determine eligibility for the credits and how to calculate them.
