Frequently Asked Questions

Prior to beginning any physical activity, it is recommended that you consult with your physician about the kinds of physical activities you wish to participate in. You can set up an appointment with a physician from the Klotz Student Health Center or sign up for a pre-exercise physical. Contact the Klotz Student Health Center at (818) 677-3666 to make an appointment.

For students:

All enrolled CSUN students are SRC members at no additional cost. When students pay tuition each semester, the SRC fee is already included in the USU fee. The required fee was approved by students who passed a referendum for the development of the recreation center in 2007. Other than the required fee paid each semester with tuition, there are no other membership fees for students to use the SRC or basic fitness classes. Fees may be assessed for personal training, intramurals, specialty classes or lessons. For more information, please visit our membership page.

For faculty, staff, alumni, and alumni association members:

Faculty and staff employed by CSUN or auxiliaries, as well as CSUN alumni, can join the SRC for a fee. Payroll deduction is available.

Alumni association members can join the SRC for a discounted rate. To qualify for the alumni association membership, an individual must be a current (dues paid) member of the CSUN Alumni Association. For information about the CSUN Alumni Association, visit the Alumni Association webpage.

SRC memberships are available to CSUN students, faculty, staff, alumni and the spouse or domestic partners of active members. Visit the membership page for more information.

The SRC is a department of the University Student Union (USU). USU professional staff and student employees manage the day-to-day operations of most of the SRC facility and programs. Associated Students operate the Sport Clubs and Outdoor Adventures programs. The USU Board of Directors, comprised mostly of students, ultimately provide direction for and approve the budget of the SRC and USU.

The SRC employs approximately 200 students and staff. Please visit our jobs page for available positions.

Students cannot opt out of the SRC fee. It is a required fee for all students (undergraduate, graduate and doctoral) as per the referendum passed by students in spring 2007, in accordance with CSU Executive Order 1054.

The SRC is located on the east side of the University Student Union (USU).

The SRC building is approximately 118,000 square feet, with an additional 20,000 square feet in the adjacent SRC pool area. The SRC Field is 130,000 sq. ft.

Historical Information

The construction of the SRC and ongoing operations are funded by student fees, as outlined in the referendum approved by students in the spring 2007. The SRC is not funded by the state of California, the California State University or taxpayers.

LPA Inc., based in Irvine, was the architect for the project. They designed Sonoma State’s student recreation center and the student union at Cal State San Bernardino.

C.W. Driver is the construction company that built the Student Recreation Center. They completed the construction of Cal State Fullerton’s student recreation center in the spring of 2008. They also built CSUN’s Valley Performing Arts Center.

The SRC opened on January 26, 2012.
