Symphony Orchestra
The CSUN Symphony is regarded as one of the finest University Orchestras in the Western United States. Under the direction of Dr. John Roscigno, the CSUN Symphony offers a full range of orchestral experiences for the career oriented student, including four major concerts a year as well as choral, opera and musical theater performances.
The orchestra is open to both music majors and non-music majors. Auditions take place the few days before classes start in the fall and spring. Auditions consist of orchestral excerpts from both the standard and season repertoire. Audition information can be found on our orchestra audition page during the summer months.
The CSUN Orchestra performs standard orchestral literature as well as important works of the 20th century, and major operatic works.

- Puccini - La Boheme
- Mozart - The Magic Flute
- Collaborations with international stars Serj Tankian and Aida Cuevas
The CSUN Orchestra has been invited twice to perform as the orchestra in the Virginia Wearing International Piano Competition in Palm Springs and routinely performs special large scale productions at the beautiful Soraya Center on the CSUN Campus.
Opera performance is an important part of an undergraduate education for instrumentalists seeking careers in performance. The CSUN Opera Program puts on full scale opera productions in both fall and spring. Members of the symphony orchestra perform in the fall opera. The spring opera typically uses a smaller chamber orchestra.
Alumni of the CSUN Symphony have gone on to careers with Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the New World Symphony, and the Symphonies of San Francisco , Houston, Toronto, San Diego and many others.
