A Guide to Reporting Misgendering and Deadnaming
Misgendering: To identify the gender of a person incorrectly.
Deadnaming: Deadname is the name given to a transgender, nonbinary, and/or gender-expansive person at birth and no longer used.
Title IX protects you against discrimination or harassment of gender identity
What is an example of this occurring?
Faculty, staff, or another student misgenders and/or deadnames you.
This can be in the form of ignoring your name or not using your pronouns, even with reminders or clarifications.
You can report this behavior to the Office of Equity and Compliance
The member involved will be aware of the concern and informed on CSUN policies.
If this is repeated and/or intentional a formal investigation can occur.
A hearing may occur if a CSU Policy is found to be in violation.
If a violation is found, discipline through the relevant counterparts will be discussed.
