Application/Admission to the MSAT

Admission Requirements

  1. Completion of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on the 4.0 GPA scale) prior to commencing the program.
  2. Completion of all prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or better and a minimum 3.0 cumulative prerequisite GPA prior to commencing the program.

Prerequisite Courses

Required to complete each of the following prerequisite courses or equivalent as approved by AT faculty prior to the application:

  1. Biology (General Biology)
  2. Chemistry (General Chemistry)
  3. Human Anatomy with Lab (Note: If students have a combined course, the series of all “Anatomy and Physiology” courses must be completed).
  4. Human Physiology with Lab (Note: If students have a combined course, the series of all “Anatomy and Physiology” courses must be completed)
  5. Nutrition (General Nutrition)
  6. Physics (General Physics)
  7. Psychology (General Psychology)
  8. Statistics (General Statistics)
  9. Biomechanics
  10. Exercise Physiology

Application/Admission Process

  1. FIRST, submit the MSAT application through Athletic Training Centralized Application Service (ATCAS) beginning on July 1st. The ATCAS application process requires the following documents:
    1. Official transcripts of all college coursework
    2. Personal Statement
    3. Two letters of recommendation
    4. A minimum of 50 observation hours under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer
    5. signed CSUN MSAT Technical Standards
  2. ATCAS accepts applications on a rolling basis with a priority deadline of November 1st. 
  3. For those who do not meet the priority deadline above, applications will continue to be accepted past the priority deadline until the end of March.
  4. SECOND, applicants must submit all application materials, AND their official transcripts must be verified by ATCAS. Once both requirements are met, the application status of ATCAS will be changed to "Verified.” 
  5. THIRD, the program will evaluate all “Verified” status applications and invite qualified applicants for an online interview.
  6. FOURTH, applicants who are accepted to the MSAT will complete the Cal State Apply application.
  7. FIFTH, applicants will receive a GS-1295 form (CSUN Graduate Admissions Evaluation form) from the Office of Graduate Studies at CSUN.
  8. SIXTH, applicants log into the CSUN Portal and accept the “Graduate Intent to Register.”
  9. SEVENTH, applicants deposit the “Seat Fee”. The seat fee is $250.00, and the deadline to deposit the seat fee is April 1st.
    1. The seat fee is non-refundable.
    2. The seat fee cannot be transferable to another semester.
    3. If the applicant attends CSUN, the seat fee deposit will be applied toward their tuition.
    4. If the applicant does not attend CSUN, the seat fee deposit will be forfeited.
  10. Admission Requirements for International Students (GRE is not required).
