Why is sexuality so taboo? How can we help people talk about sex? With the Human Sexuality minor, you'll learn how to encourage healthy sexuality for all.

Why Minor in Human Sexuality?

Understand the way that sexuality works to promote healthy behavior and norms. You'll examine how humans experience and express themselves sexually. You'll study anatomy, genetics and hormones. You'll also learn about the global range of beliefs, behaviors and practices. Through your studies, you will be able to work in the field of human sexuality. Your minor will be an asset for a career in healthcare, social services, education and more.

Because the Human Sexuality minor is an interdisciplinary program, your courses will come from different departments in CSUN. You will take classes in health science, sociology, English and more. This will give you a comprehensive view of human sexuality.

What You'll Learn

Through your Human Sexuality minor classes, you will explore sexual theories past and present. You will examine the way gender, race and class shape sexuality in a variety of academic fields. You will select courses over three areas of human sexuality.

In the Health and Clinical Components of Human Sexuality area, you will study topics such as:

  • Anthropology of Sex
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • Public Health Strategies in HIV and STI Prevention

In the Social and Psychological Components of Human Sexuality area, you will select from topics including:

  • Marriage and Family Relations
  • Psychological Aspects of Human Sexuality
  • Sociology of LGBT Communities

In the Gender, Cultural and Humanistic Components of Human Sexuality area, your will select from topics such as:

  • Sexual Ethics
  • Perspectives in Queer Studies
  • Cultural Anthropology

Here from the beginning.

In 1978, CSUN became the first university to offer a minor in human sexuality. The program grew out of the sexual revolution of the 1960s and became especially relevant during and after the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s. We proudly continue our tradition of teaching this subject today.
