We offer a flexible minor that allows you to choose courses that fit your major or area of interest. You can create a broad program that provides a background in several areas or you can choose to specialize in a specific area such as social inequality or human sexuality. Your will work with an advisor to design a program of study that complements your major.

What You'll Learn

As a Sociology minor, you will learn core sociological concepts and research methods. You can choose from a wide array of courses to study human behavior, social institutions and social change. These courses will enhance majors studying law, health, psychology and more.

You will take one introductory sociology class. You will also take one of the following courses:

  • Statistical techniques in social research
  • Classical sociological theory
  • Contemporary sociological theory
  • Qualitative and quantitative research methods

You will also choose from a variety of electives to complete your minor. These courses include:

  • Sociology of law
  • Medical sociology
  • Diversity and social justice
  • Population dynamics
  • The family
  • Class, status and power
