As a Creative Writing minor, your classes will culminate in your final project. As part of your senior seminar, you will create and present original stories, poems or dramas. You will be able to study the authors and works that interest you. Our faculty will give you the tools you need to develop your voice through your classes. What You'll Learn
In the Creative Writing minor, you'll take courses where you will practice writing. You can focus on narrative works, poetry or drama for stage, radio and television. You'll also read works by other authors to encourage and inspire you. You'll be ready to use your writing skills in your future workplace.
After you take an introductory creative writing class, you'll focus on the literature form you want to study: narrative writing (fiction stories), verse writing (poetry) or playwriting (drama). You'll take advanced courses in the form you choose.
You'll also take a senior seminar in which you will create and present an original work. It can be a collection of short stories, a longer work of fiction, a collection of poetry or a performance of a dramatic text.
You will also be able to take an elective class from the Department of English. We encourage you to find one that aligns with your creative writing area of interest.

Submit your original work to the Northridge Review, a literary and arts journal curated and produced by CSUN students. Every year, the NR publishes two volumes containing the best in art, poetry, fiction and drama from the CSUN and neighboring community.
