Produce Prescription Project

Dr. Dena Herman-Mendes leads a team of students researchers in the Produce Prescription Project, a community-based effort funded by the CA Department of Food and Agriculture with the goal of increasing access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and nutrition information for families who are food insecure.

Collaboration in Big Data Analysis and Open Science Studying OceanFronts, Salinity and Climate Systems in Coastal North America

In this NASA-funded project led by Dr. Mario Giraldo, students are honing their technical skills in working with large datasets and geographic information system (GIS) mapping to study variables in ocean systems.

Project PRISM-Ed (Preparing a Pipeline for Recruitment and Retention of Social Justice and Equity-Minded Deaf Educators)

Three faculty from the departments of Special Education and Deaf Studies (Drs. Rachel Friedman-Narr, Flavia Fleischer, and Carla Garcia-Fernandez) are collaborating on this US Department of Education-funded project to prepare educators of the deaf to implement best-practices in equity-minded teaching.

Dr. Jeremy Yoder works with students in the Mojave Desert to study the unique relationship between Joshua trees and the brood pollinating yucca moths.

Establishing bidirectional principles of motor learning and rehabilitation in virtual reality

Four faculty from the departments of Kinesiology, Psychology, and Mechanical Engineering (Drs. Jacob Hinkel-Lipsker, Stephanie Drew, Thomas Chan, and Peter Bishay) are collaborating on this NSF-funded project to understand how virtual reality systems can be better used to support individuals during physical rehabilitation.

Applying Data Science on Energy-efficient Cluster Systems and Applications

In this NSF-funded project, Dr. Xunfei Jiang leads a team of students in computer science as they develop skills in intelligent data collection, data processing, and visualization of geospatial data to examine energy consumption of cluster systems.

Through an initiative of the Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation, funded by the State of California, Dr. Rafi Efrat leads a team of accounting students who provide free tax preparation services to low-income taxpayers in Los Angeles County.
