Research Information

Biomechanics

Dr. Jarvis is the director of LEAAP (Laboratory for Evaluating Athletic & Aesthetic
Performance), where she conducts biomechanics research and oversees projects run by CSUN graduate and undergraduate students. Her research interests are in movement coordination during skilled athletic activities. Specifically, she studies joint demands during jumping movements and her current research focuses on lower extremity biomechanics during dance jumps.

Psychophysiology

Dr. Jaque and Dr. Thomson are the co-directors of the Performance Psychophysiology
Laboratory. The purpose of the psychophysiology research study is to determine the relationship between self-report tests, interviews, and measurement instruments that assess your autonomic nervous system. We hope to learn more about research instruments commonly selected to evaluate relationships, personality, stress, creativity, mood, coping strategies, and heart rate variability during performances and rehearsals.

Performance Psychology

Dr. Iwabuchi, Dr. Jaque, Dr. Jensen, and Dr. Thomson are co-directors of the Performance Psychology Laboratory. The purpose of the performance psychology research study is to determine the psychological factors associated with stress. We hope to learn more about stress, specifically the risk and protective factors of stress. We examine psychological factors that ranges from creativity, mood, flow, coping strategies, cumulative trauma, anxiety, depression, anxiety, climate change anxiety, shyness, emotion regulation, shame, and self-esteem in performing artists, athletes, and active individuals.
