Services and Support
We’ve Got Your Back
As a Matador, you’ll have what you need while you’re putting in the work to transform your future.
Create a Smooth Transition to CSUN
Whether you’re heading to CSUN from high school or community college, you’ll find what you need to ensure a smooth and successful transition into Matador life.
Your support begins long before your first day of school as a Matador. Our preadmissions counselors and outreach interns are here to answer any questions you may have about attending CSUN, and they can also help you with Cal State Apply.
You’ll be matched with an advisor who will connect you with resources, explain university policies and provide guidance as you explore course work to help you create an efficient, successful path to graduation.
Attending New Student Orientation will help you continue to build connections with fellow students, faculty and staff as you get ready for a great first semester at CSUN. And you’ll have a lot of fun!
Programs like Pathways to Excellence (for freshmen) will kick-start your journey as a proud and prepared Matador, and offer continued support throughout your entire first year. Depending on your major, you may also be eligible for other summer programs. There’s also Camp Matador, a weekend adventure in the mountains for new freshmen and transfer students — because you’re never too old to have fun at summer camp!
Our University 100 course is designed to help you gain and practice skills necessary to succeed in college, in life and in your career. University 301 is designed for transfer students and helps you explore your academic and professional strengths and interests. With both seminars, you can choose from a variety of cohort options, including Black Excellence, Chicanx/Latinx Scholars and options related to select majors.
On-Campus Employment
Many Matadors work to support themselves and their families while they’re in school. An on-campus job is a great way to balance your academic and personal responsibilities. You’ll earn competitive wages with the option to find a job related to your career interests, and your employer will always understand the importance of your schoolwork.
Speaking of employment, the Career Center is here to help you discover and explore career aspirations, provide helpful advice and equip you with strategies to help you succeed in the workplace.
Personal Support and Safety
You can’t learn when you don’t feel safe, are struggling to meet basic needs or find it difficult to navigate mental and emotional challenges. At CSUN, ensuring the physical and emotional safety and security of our community is our top priority.
We understand that, to succeed in the classroom, you can’t be worrying about where you’re going to sleep tonight or how you’ll stretch your budget to cover groceries. Our CSUN With a Heart team is here to make sure your basic needs are met — through access to a food pantry, assistance with housing, emergency grants and more.
Police Services is a full-service, accredited law enforcement agency providing 24/7 police and emergency services. Assistance includes Matador Patrol safety escorts available from dusk to 11 p.m. and a network of 94 emergency blue light phones (plus TTY call boxes) that connect directly to a CSUN police dispatcher.
As a student raising a family, you have a lot on your plate! In addition to helpful resources available to all Matadors, student parents also benefit from access to family housing in University Village and childcare through the Children’s Center.
Connecting with a professional with whom you can safely share your thoughts and experiences will help you live your best life as a Matador. University Counseling Services provides wellness workshops and group programs, psychiatric services, crisis/urgent care services and case management to support your mental health, well-being and academic success.
