Botanic Garden
The Cal State Northridge Botanic Garden has evolved over the years since its dedication in 1959. Originally planted with California natives, the 1.5-acre Garden and Greenhouse Complex is now a collection of some 1,200 plant species representing many regions and climates.
Nestled between the University Student Union and Chaparral Hall, the Botanic Garden and its four greenhouses are:
* a living library of diverse plant specimens
* an outdoor classroom for students of all ages and interests
* a beautiful refuge for quiet study or strolling
* an ever-changing setting to paint or sketch
* a valued community asset
The Garden is a vital academic resource. CSUN students use specimens for class assignments and research projects in biological principles, plant biology, plant ecology, plant morphology, plant physiology and entomology. Students of ethnobotany, paleogeology, art, design, photography and film find inspiration here.
The Garden is open to the public, Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m, but is closed on University holidays. For safety reasons, the Botanic Garden may close earlier than scheduled during conditions of severe weather.
Be a Friend! Help Our Garden Grow State funds alone are not sufficient to broaden plant collections, acquire modern equipment and much-needed supplies, curate educational displays, improve disabled access, add "hardscape" features such as paths, irrigation and an information board, and provide additional maintenance and staff services. This is where friends come in--friends who donate funds, plant specimens and/or their time. Your support will help the Garden flourish. To become a Friend, please make a tax-deductible gift of $30 ($40 for a family) payable to the CSUN Foundation - Botanic Garden and mail it to the CSUN Biology Department at the address below. Membership is effective for one year and entitles you to early registration for the CSUN-al Gardening classes. CSUN Botanic Garden
