Women, Infants & Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program funded by federal grants to help prenatal and postpartum women, infants, and children under the age of five. Participants receive one-on-one nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthcare and community referrals, and a WIC food benefit card to purchase healthy foods at local grocery stores. To enroll, proof of income, current address, identification card, and proof of pregnancy (if applicable) are needed at the initial visit. Further information can be found online at https://www.myfamily.wic.ca.gov or by calling (818) 361-7541 to speak with a representative.
A part-time WIC office is located on the CSUN campus in Sequoia Hall Room 113. This office is open to all CSUN students, staff, or faculty members, and the surrounding community. This office is operated by Northeast Valley Health Corporation, a private, non-profit community-based organization who also operate (8) additional WIC offices in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys.
CSUN is a hub for WIC, 'women, infants and children,' aiming to save lives
CSUN found 41.6% of it's students reported food insecurity, making WIC an important tool.
Let's Cook Healthy
This bilingual recipe website is brought to you through a collaborative effort by Northeast Valley Health Corporation WIC Program (NEVHC WIC) and Marilyn Magaram Center at California State University Northridge (CSUN MMC).
Since 2003, NEVHC has developed 4 bilingual cookbooks in response to WIC families asking for recipies that are both delicious and healthy. All recipies have been taste tested and well accepted by WIC families. These recipies provide great ideas for healthy menus and feature a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. We hope that you and your family enjoy preparing these recipies together.
