Immigration Information & Services Resource Hub

CSUN is dedicated to creating a welcoming and safe environment for all students, faculty and staff.

We are committed to ensuring that every CSUN community member, regardless of immigration status, has the opportunity to thrive academically, personally and professionally. This website highlights critical information and immigration resources.

California State University (CSU) campuses, including CSUN, do not assist immigration officials engaged in enforcement activities on our campus, including officials of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection. CSUN will continue to follow CSU policy and the December 2024, California Attorney General’s guidance on immigration concerns: Promoting a Safe and Secure Campus for All.

Under current state law, the CSUN Department of Police Services cannot initiate a contact, detention, questioning, or arrest of any student, employee, or other person on campus on the basis of his or her suspected undocumented immigration status or to discover the individual’s immigration status. Furthermore, the Department of Police Services cannot undertake joint efforts with immigration authorities to investigate, detain, or arrest individuals for violation of immigration laws.

CSUN University Designated Official: State law requires each CSU university to designate an individual who is to be informed when an immigration officer is expected to enter, will enter, or has entered the campus to execute a federal immigration order. This individual is also responsible for verifying the legality of any warrants, court orders and/or subpoenas. DPS Chief of Police, Alfredo Fernandez, is the CSUN University Designated Official and can be reached at (818) 677 -2111. The Department of Police Services is located on the corner of Prairie and Darby.

  • DPS Policy on Immigration Violations: The CSU Northridge Police policy emphasizes that the enforcement of federal immigration laws falls under the jurisdiction of federal agencies. It outlines procedures for interactions with immigration officials and reaffirms the department’s commitment to providing equal service to all individuals, regardless of immigration status. The Department of Police Service does not engage in immigration enforcement in its normal course of duties nor does it participate with federal immigration enforcement officers in enforcing federal immigration violations.

CSUN remains committed to protecting student data in accordance with federal and state laws and ensuring data is used solely for its intended purpose. Records are not released to a third party, including immigration enforcement officials, without the written permission of the individual in question or a proper judicial order.
