If graduating this academic year BUT missed the deadline to participate at the commencement ceremonies (TBD) then you can still appeal to participate and should do the following:
- Have already applied to graduate with Undergraduate Degree Services or Graduate Studies and it is listed on your Degree Progress Report (DPR).
- Can provide a compelling reason for your appeal.
Please Note:
COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM BOOK: A commencement program book containing all names of the current year's graduates will be provided to all graduates at the commencement ceremony. Names are provided to our office through the Office of the Registrar around early April. Your name appearing in the book will be based on the time that you applied to graduate (either with Undergraduate Degree Services or Graduate Studies). If appealing to participate, your name should appear in the program book if you applied to graduate by early April.
CEREMONY TICKETS: Tickets will be distributed online to all eligible graduates first and will have a ticketing window that will last two to three weeks. Once the ticketing window closes for all general graduates, we will be able to award tickets to those who are approved in their appeal to participate. The amount of tickets will be based on the amount available at the time of your approval.
The 2027 Participation Appeal Application has not yet opened. Please check back in Spring 2027 for more information.
The spring ceremony is for graduating students within this Academic Year (Fall 2026, Spring/Summer 2027).
Those graduating NEXT academic year (Fall 2027) and wish to "WALK EARLY" at the current year's commencement ceremonies can file an appeal.
The following must be met when filing an appeal:
- Have applied to graduate with Undergraduate Degree Services or Graduate Studies and it is reflected on your Degree Progress Report (DPR).
- Units remaining toward completion of your degree in Fall 2027 are:
- Domestic Students - 6 units remaining
- International Students - 9 units remaining
- All coursework and substitutions from CSUN and other institutions have been submitted and are reflected on your DPR.
- Can provide a compelling reason for your appeal (250 characters or less).
NOTES:
COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM BOOK: Students who are requesting to 'walk early' (graduates for next Fall 27) will not be in the Commencement Program Book but will be in the following year's book since that will accurately reflect one's graduation year.

According to the U.S. Department of State - Bureau of Consular Affairs (BCA), a letter of invitation is not part of the required documentation for a visitor visa (B-2 or combined B1/B2). Moreover, the BCA states it is not one of the factors used in determining whether the visa is issued or denied.
NOTE: If you can provide documentation stating this letter is required, we will be happy to review said documentation and respond accordingly.
Please contact these offices if further Visa assistance is required:
