Chemistry

Minor

Chemistry helps us understand everything from the world inside us to worlds billions of miles away. Building basic knowledge in this central science provides insights into dozens of fields.

Why Minor in Chemistry?

Chemistry is often called the central science, because it serves as a bridge between the physical and life sciences. When you minor in chemistry, you'll learn basic concepts that will give you invaluable insights into the ways those other sciences work.

All scientists rely on chemistry: It helps astronomers understand how stars generate heat, biochemists develop new medical treatments, and materials scientists develop materials that lead to smaller microchips.

Studying chemistry and spending time in the laboratory will also increase your powers of observation and sharpen your scientific and analytical thinking — skills that will pay off in the long run.

Why Minor in Chemistry at CSUN?

Up Close and Personal

Small classes and one-on-one attention from faculty mean you'll really get to know your professors and the course material.

Pro-Quality Tools

At CSUN, you'll train on the same kinds of modern instruments that you'll find in laboratories in the real world.

Make Your Mark

Many undergraduates have the chance to work on research projects with faculty. You may even publish the results of your work in peer-reviewed publications and present at local, national and international conferences.

What You'll Learn

As a Chemistry minor, you'll get a broad introduction to the basic aspects of the science. In addition to introductory classes in chemistry and physics, you'll also complete upper-level work in biochemistry, organic chemistry and chemical analysis. You'll also take problem-solving courses that require group work.
