Why Minor in Asian Studies?
Asia is the largest region in the world and home to more than half of the world's population. In our global economy, businesses and nonprofits need workers who are knowledgeable about the region.
With an Asian Studies minor, you will learn about Asian culture and history. You'll take a wide range of courses on East Asia, Central Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia. You'll learn about the history, culture, language, society, economy and politics of those areas. Your knowledge will be an asset in many fields, from business to diplomacy.

Breadth and Depth
The Asian Studies minor benefits from the strength of CSUN's strong academic programs. This interdisciplinary program draws from subjects from language to art history to geology. By learning from our excellent faculty from across the university, you will gain an in-depth knowledge of Asian studies.
Flexible Minor
Because of the breadth of Asian studies, we offer a flexible minor program. You will be able to work with an advisor to develop a program of study that interests you and complements your major. You can create a broad program that provides a background in several areas of Asian history and culture. Or you can choose to specialize in a specific culture of Asia or a field such as history, economy or politics.
Study Abroad
Engage in the culture of Asia. The Asian Studies minor encourages you to experience the countries you are studying firsthand. You can study abroad through CSU International Programs or CSUN’s campus-based exchange programs. You'll earn credit for your minor classes while experiencing different cultures.
What You'll Learn
Because the minor in Asian studies is an interdisciplinary program, you will take classes from across CSUN's departments. Some of your courses will focus on a specific country or area in Asia, such as China, Korea, India and Japan. Others discuss religion, politics and arts from a comprehensive view.
Because of the breadth of course offerings, you will be able to create your own academic plan with an advisor. You can choose classes that provide you with a broad overview of Asian studies or concentrate on a certain geographic area or field. This way, you will be able to create a program of study that enhances your major or matches your interests.
