About the Institute
Founded in 2008, the CSUN Institute for Sustainability works across all colleges and divisions to integrate sustainability into academics, facilities, and community life. The Institute fosters collaboration, supports education and research, and advances initiatives that promote equity and resilience on campus and beyond.
Focus areas include:

Education and Research – advancing sustainability learning through curriculum innovation, interdisciplinary teaching, and applied scholarship

Knowledge Integration – incorporating traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), local ecological knowledge (LEK), and western science in sustainability approaches

Facilities and Planning – collaborating on sustainable infrastructure, operations, and long-term campus planning
