CSUN's Commitment to Sustainability

At California State University Northridge (CSUN) sustainability is an interdisciplinary effort that crosses institutes, departments, programs, and involves faculty, staff and students.  It is a key priority that involves many different aspects of the university from operations and infrastructure to outreach, education, and research.  Our efforts to achieve sustainability focus on the CSUN university community as well the surrounding people of the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles County. There are four areas of sustainability that function together across the campus to push forward the agenda for researching, engaging with and educating about the topic of sustainability.  We take a very broad view of sustainability. Our work together hinges on innovation and taking creative action on sustainability guided in part by our (2023)  Road Map to Sustainability, which outlines sustainability goals and activities in ten functional areas. We are a proud signatory to Second Nature’s Presidents’ Climate Commitment and are following a Climate Action Plan that will guide us towards climate neutrality by 2040.
