Student Travel
Are you traveling to a scientific conference?
All student planning to travel to a conference or a training event related or part of the CSUN
education experience must complete the following forms and submit them to stefanie.joseph@csun.edu at least 4 weeks prior to traveling (if not submitted within this
time frame, you run the risk of your request being denied). These forms must be completed
even if you are not receiving any financial support for the travel from CSUN.
Use this Quick Guide:
Follow these steps to complete the REQUIRED FORMS before you travel and obtain funding for your travel:
Step 1: Complete Travel Forms (.PDF) 4 weeks prior to travel
- Approval of Travel Request - Approval of Travel Request Form
- Waiver of Liability - CSU Liability Waiver (rev. Oct. 2022)
- Participant List - Attached to Travel Forms Guide
- Authorization to Use/Operate a Privately Owned Vehicle
- Authorization Form
- Steps to Become Authorized to Drive on University Business:
- Step One: Complete Mandatory Training Other Student Safety Training | California State University, Northridge
- Defensive Driving Program
- Select Northridge from the drop-down menu
- Log in with your CSUN portal credentials
- Click Register, then Start, and Start Course
- Be sure to disable any pop-up blockers so the course loads properly.
- Step Two: Complete and Submit the Authorization Form
- Fill out the Student Authorization Privately Owned Vehicle form in full
- Steps to Become Authorized to Drive on University Business:
Driving Safely, Driving Smarter (49 mins) Annual Training

- Training is for CSUN enrolled students that will drive to a CSUN organized event/field trip.
- Visit Academic Field Trip Transportation for additional requirements.
- CSUN State employees (faculty, staff, student employees, and volunteers) driving for CSUN business, visit Request for Defensive Driving & Powered Cart Training.
- Submit the completed forms to Stefanie Joseph by email (stefanie.joseph@csun.edu)
Step 2: Apply for Travel Funding ($$) Opportunities:
- Associate Student Start Funding (all students can apply for this but check with your faculty advisor first)
- Graduate Studies Funding (Only graduate students can apply)
After Travel is Completed
* To be Reimbursed for your travel your must complete the CSUN Travel Claim from (.xls)
- All Travel Receipt (Registration Fees, Lodging, Transportation/Mileage, etc.)
- Provide credit card Statement used for Purchases
- Submit the completed forms to Stefanie Joseph by email (stefanie.joseph@csun.edu)
