AI and VXR Initiatives in Higher Education

About

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS) at CSUN is pioneering the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Extended Reality (VXR) in education and social services. Led by Dr. Ellie Kazemi from the Department of Psychology, the CSBS AI & VXR Initiatives explore how these transformative technologies can enhance learning, research, and community engagement.

Through interdisciplinary webinars, hands-on workshops, and research collaborations, our initiative helps faculty and students harness AI and VXR to streamline workflows, improve student support, and create immersive learning environments. A key project includes the development of a “CSUN twin campus” in virtual reality, supported by a grant from Victory XR, enabling new modes of digital interaction and education.

AI has the potential to support overburdened educators and social service professionals by automating routine tasks, generating personalized learning experiences, and expanding access to resources. However, as Dr. Kazemi emphasizes, AI is a tool—not a substitute for human connection. Ethical considerations, inclusivity, and responsible implementation remain at the heart of our work.
