Gretchen Macchiarella is an associate professor in the Journalism department with a focus on Digital Media and Emerging Journalistic Practices. She was previously the advisor for the Daily Sundial student newspaper. Her research interests center on media innovation in business and multimedia storytelling. She is on the boards of several nonprofits, spanning education and journalism.

Prior to joining CSUN, she worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, most recently at the Ventura County Star. She earned a master’s degree in Digital Journalism and Design from the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg and undergrad from UC Santa Barbara.
