</p><p><a href="https://nikolehannahjones.com/&quot; target="_blank">Nikole Hannah-Jones</a>, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times staff writer, made an appearance at CSUN as part of a series of Black History Month events on campus. She was interviewed by CSUN faculty members about her work &#8220;<a href="https://1619education.org/about-1619-project&quot; target="_blank">The 1619 Project</a>&#8221; that has re-framed discussions about slavery in the United States.</p>
<p>Hannah-Jones, CSUN Africana Studies Chair Marquita Gammage and College of Health and Human Services Interim Dean Mechelle Best spoke before an audience at the University Student Union on Feb. 10, 2023.</p>
<p>Hannah-Jones, who covers racial injustice for the New York Times Magazine, discussed her book that commemorates the 400th anniversary of the beginning of slavery in what became the United States. &#8220;The 1619 Project,&#8221; that began as a special issue of the New York Times Magazine, then expanded to include a podcast, an anthology and a children&#8217;s book, examines the long-lasting repercussions of slavery.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is not just a job for me, it&#8217;s work I felt called to do. To repay a debt to my ancestors,&#8221; Hannah-Jones said.</p>
