CSUN will roll out the red carpet for brand new Matadors at a popular summer event.

Student Outreach and Recruitment (SOAR) is hosting a pre-movie mixer on July 14 for new students at CSUN’s outdoor movie series, Summer Movie Fest. The featured movie is Pixar’s “Turning Red.” Newly admitted Matadors should check their campus email for the official invitation, which includes up to two guests. The deadline to register is July 11.

Registered new-student guests will each receive a CSUN picnic blanket and tote bag, along with a dessert voucher for themselves and up to two guests. Vouchers can be exchanged for a sweet treat at SOAR’s hosted food truck. These free perks are limited to the first 500 registered students in attendance, but all newly admitted Matadors are encouraged to attend for useful information and a fun evening.

The event, Turning Matador Red, a nod to the Pixar film, will further acquaint newly admitted students and their families with CSUN’s warm and welcoming environment, while connecting them with vital campus resources.

“Student success depends on student support,” said Vera Hampton, associate director, Student Outreach and Recruitment. “We want our newly admitted students to experience how, right from the start, CSUN offers an abundance of resources to help them succeed as Matadors both academically and personally.”

The evening will feature a dozen information tables with campus partners including financial aid, housing, campus dining, academic departments and more.

Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., with information tables available from 6-7:45 p.m., giving guests plenty of time to mingle, learn from campus partners, and enjoy the additional food trucks, lawn games and entertainment available as part of Summer Movie Fest.

Prior to opening credits, guests will hear from William Watkins, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, along with other campus leaders, offering a warm welcome to the community and a special message for CSUN’s newly admitted students.
