CTVA 329

CTVA 329 "Program Production" is a course that provides students the opportunity to gain professional preparation by assisting and being mentored in a variety of capacities on campus, generally within the activities of the CTVA Department. 

This course is one of two options for fulfilling the "Professional Preparation" section of the CTVA Core Curriculum requirements. The other option is an off-campus internship, which is a separate course: CTVA 494. Find information for CTVA 494 here.

CTVA 329C is a 3-unit course and is generally fulfilled by a student being an assistant for one of the following assignments:

  • PA for CTVA Courses - with permission of Course Instructor

  • ARC Equipment Room - with permission of Thomas Popp

  • Armer Screening Room - with permission of William Wilson

  • Script Library - with permission of student Script Library Coordinators

  • 88.5 FM/The SoCal Sound - with permission of (information to come)

  • CTVA Office - with permission of Peter Baca

  • CTVA Engineering Department - with permission of William Wilson

  • Cinematheque - with permission of Professor Dianah Wynter

  • Entertainment Industry Institute - with permission of Peter Baca

  • Other/Special Assignment (e.g. research assistant for a professor) - with permission of Instructor or Staff Member

CTVA 329A is a 1-unit course primarily for Film Production Students to work on a thesis project. Opportunities include:

  • PA for CTVA Senior Thesis Project - with permission of Professors Nate Thomas, Michael Hoggan, Joel Krantz

CTVA 329B is a 2-unit course by permission only. Please see Maria Valdez for information.

  • COMPLETE 329 SUPERVISION FORM:

    • Download the 329 Course Supervision Course Form (PDF) and complete all information

    • Students must then obtain a signature from their 329 supervisor (either the Faculty or Staff who will be supervising them) and email the completed, signed Supervision Course Form to Maria Valdez.

  • REGISTER:

    • Once the form has been received by Maria Valdez, and she has confirmed all information is correct and complete, students will be notified by email that they are cleared to register for the course using the CSUN Portal.

    • Students must register for CTVA 329 by the registration deadlines for all other courses. There are no special or "rolling" registration dates for 329.

  • JOIN CANVAS COURSE: Once registered, student will be added to a 329 Canvas course

  • COMPLETE & UPLOAD HOURLY LOG IN SHEET:

    • Download the 329 Hourly Log In Sheet (PDF). The log must be completed, signed by your Supervisor, and uploaded to Canvas by the last day of regularly scheduled instruction. Do not upload it weekly, just at the end of the semester.

    • Credit will be based on attendance and active participation.
    • All tasks for your assignment are to be performed in a timely and professional manner.

  • What is the difference between CTVA 329 and CTVA 494?

    • CTVA 329 is an on-campus assistant position. CTVA 494 is an off-campus internship. Please click here for more information about CTVA 494.

  • How many units of CTVA 329 do I need to take?

    • Please refer to your DPR or Faculty Advisor.

    • Film Production Option students must take CTVA 329A plus 3-units of either CTVA 329C or CTVA 494A/B.

    • All other options must take 3-units of either CTVA 329 or CTVA 494.

  • How many total units of CTVA 329 may I take?

    • Students may take a total of 6 units in the "professional preparation" category. That can be either CTVA 329, CTVA 494, or a combination of both.

  • What are the registration dates for CTVA 329?

  • Where do I submit my Hourly Log Sheet?

    • Submit the Hourly Log Sheet on the Canvas course by the last day of formal instruction.

    • Yes international students should be eligible for CTVA 329 and CTVA 494. Please consult the CTVA office for specific information.

  • If I am getting paid for a position on-campus, can I also use it as my CTVA 329?

    • No, if you are getting paid for an on-campus position, it may not be used as a CTVA 329 placement.
