Women's History Month

Women's History Month is a month-long celebration dedicated to recognizing and honoring the contributions and achievements of women in the United States and around the world. It highlights the vital roles women have played in shaping history, culture, and society. Women's History Month serves to amplify the voices and stories of women—from trailblazers and pioneers to everyday heroes. The month also helps raise awareness about gender equality issues and inspires future generations to continue the fight for equity and inclusion.

Women's History Month traces its origins to International Women's Day, first celebrated in 1911. In the United States, the movement for a dedicated women's history celebration began in California in 1978, when a local Women's History Week was organized. The idea gained momentum, and in 1980, President Jimmy Carter declared the first National Women's History Week. By 1987, after strong advocacy, Congress officially designated March as Women's History Month, expanding the celebration to the entire month.

The theme for Women's History Month 2025 is "Advancing Women's Rights: Visionary Voices for a Better Future." This theme highlights the power of women who are driving change in areas like education, healthcare, technology, climate action, and social justice. It encourages reflection on the progress made, while recognizing the work still needed to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all women. By spotlighting visionary leaders, activists, and innovators, the theme inspires people to learn from the past and work toward a more inclusive and equitable future."
