LGBTQIA2S+ History Month is a month-long observance every October that honors the history and civil rights movements of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, and other sexual and gender diverse identities (LGBTQIA2S+). Initially recognized in 1994, the month was established to coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11. In 2009, President Barack Obama officially declared it a national observance.
At CSUN, around 10% of our student population identifies as LGBTQIA2S+. We are proud to celebrate the rich diversity within the LGBTQIA2S+ community, recognizing individuals of various sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. This month, we also honor the resilience of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals in the face of adversity. This month we come together to share our dedication to education, awareness, and the celebration of LGBTQIA2S+ history and contributions to society.
In addition to our exciting curriculum and campus resources, be sure to check out the events and activities planned throughout the month!
