Public Health Minor - Coming Fall 2026!

Announcing the Public Health Minor at CSUN!

Are you passionate about making a difference in community health and wellness? The Department of Health Sciences at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is excited to offer a Minor in Public Health in Fall 2026! This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of public health principles and practices.

Program Requirements:

To earn a Minor in Public Health, students must complete a minimum of 21 units. The program includes the following required courses (18 units):

  • HSCI 314: Organization and Delivery of Health Services (3 units)
  • HSCI 331: Principles and Foundations of Health Education (3 units)
  • HSCI 431: Health Behavior Theory (3 units)
  • HSCI 439: Community Health Action (3 units)
  • HSCI 470: Environmental Health (3 units)
  • HSCI 488: Epidemiology (3 units)

In addition, students must choose take one of the following courses (3 or 4 units):

  • HSCI 335: Holistic Health (3 units)
  • HSCI 336: Health Aspects of Drug Use (3 units)
  • HSCI 337: Nutrition and Health (3 units)
  • HSCI 345: Public Health Issues (3 units)
  • HSCI 369: Public Health Strategies in HIV and STI Prevention (3 units)
  • HSCI 390/L: Biostatistics (4 units)
  • HSCI 433: Counseling of Health Problems (3 units)
  • HSCI 434: Lactation Education: Prenatal and Perinatal Period (3 units)
  • HSCI 435: Health Science for Children and Youth (3 units)
  • HSCI 436: Health Concerns of Adolescents (3 units)
  • HSCI 438: International Health (3 units)
  • HSCI 440: Family Health (3 units)
  • HSCI 442: Health, Culture, and Diversity (3 units)
  • HSCI 446: Lactation Education: Postpartum Period (3 units)

Total Units Required: Minimum of 21 units

This minor is an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge and skills in public health, preparing them for careers in health education, community health, environmental health, and more.
