Welcome to the CECS Honors Co-Op Program, a prestigious opportunity for exceptional engineering and computer science students at CSUN. This selective program admits students through a rigorous faculty selection process based on academic achievement and professional potential.

Participation requires formal arrangements between CSUN and partner employers who commit to providing valuable industry experience. Students cannot join the program independently or solely based on securing employment offers outside the program. We actively welcome and encourage new employer partnerships to expand opportunities for our students.

This resources page provides essential information to help you understand program requirements, application procedures, and available support.

All students selected for the Co-Op program must make a one-year commitment. This includes working full-time during summer and part-time (20 hours per week) during fall and spring semesters.

International students should review our International Students Resources page for additional requirements specific to visa regulations.

The program is open to US citizens, permanent residents, and international students with qualifying visas. Some positions may be restricted to US citizens only, which will be clearly indicated in the published job listings before the application period.

All international students must qualify for Co-Op internships through the standard selection procedure. Students cannot join the program solely to meet visa requirements with a pre-arranged job offer.

Please review our International Students Resources page for additional requirements specific to visa regulations.

Students must complete all 6 units of Honors Co-Op classes. These courses count toward your overall GPA but do not fulfill major requirements. While these credit-bearing classes are included in CSUN GPA calculations, no 494 class can be included in the senior packet for engineering majors or in the concentrated study package for computer science majors.

Please review the CECS494HCX course syllabus for complete information about class requirements and expectations.

Permission numbers are required for registration in CECS494HCX classes. These permission numbers are issued by email only—not through in-person visits.
