How do consumer and business decisions shape our world? Economics is a key that can unlock many future career paths — in finance, business, law, public policy and more.

Why Study Economics?

Learn how markets function and why businesses and consumers make the decisions they do. Understand how individual choices impact larger trends and vice versa. You'll gain strong analytical skills and be able to apply them to help companies or policymakers.

Due to its rigor and versatility, economics is consistently ranked one of the best college majors. With a foundation in economics, you'll be well-prepared for graduate studies or a wide range of careers in business or government.

Why Study Economics at CSUN?

Macro and Micro Approach

In our economics program, you'll get the full picture — close up and zoomed out. You'll study macroeconomics, examining national and international economies as a whole. You'll also study microeconomics, looking at the forces driving business and consumer decision-making.

Bigger and Better

We’re one of the largest business schools in the country, with 7,000 students and an alumni network of more than 50,000. This means you’ll have access to more resources, world-class faculty and state-of-the-art facilities.

What You'll Learn

You'll learn how economies work at scale, how companies and consumers make decisions, and how they're all connected. You'll examine the impact of taxes, subsidies and government regulations on businesses and other financial systems. You'll learn to interpret large sets of economic data, and use it to help businesses or policymakers make better, more informed decisions.

You'll become very well-rounded in your knowledge. Our curriculum also introduces you to the foundations of accounting, business communication, statistics and information systems. Upper-level courses allow you to deepen your foundational knowledge, as well as explore the topics you're most interested in through electives like health economics, labor economics and international trade.
