Dance

Minor

Express your creativity with a minor in dance. You'll learn a variety of dance techniques plus choreography and more.

Why Minor in Dance?

A Dance minor allows students to continue or begin their dance education and training. A Dance minor is a great choice if you have an academic area you want to pursue but still want a creative outlet.

You'll experience the art of dance from the challenging physical commitment to the realization of creative performance.

Dance gives you training in essential skills for many areas of life, including discipline, motivation, persistence, teamwork, confidence and creativity.

Why Study Dance at CSUN?

The Department of Kinesiology, in collaboration with the Music and Theatre departments, produces several concerts each academic year. Multiple studio performances are offered at the completion of each semester.

Outreach programs are currently being developed, including collaborations with professional dance groups in the Los Angeles community. CSUN dance students are active participants in all aspects of the dance activities offered at CSUN.

What You'll Learn

There are five domains in the dance minor: technique, pedagogy, world dance/cultural diversity, choreography and production.

You'll acquire the skills you need to:

  • Teach dance within school and community settings
  • Enhance your technical facility as a dancer
  • Choreograph and mount new works for stage, film and/or television

You can also take relevant courses in the departments of Music or Theatre, with the approval of your advisor.

Graduate students, faculty and alumni come together for annual dance concert

Dance is collaborative by nature — between dancers and choreographers, music and movement, and performers and the audience. Each year the department presents a collaborative dance concert by graduate students, faculty and alumni.
