Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search (ETS) at CSUN offer a variety of free services for first generation and low-income middle and high school students. To see a list of workshops and activities offered through each program, view the sections below.
The Educational Talent Search program at CSUN provides an array of support services and resources, so students may be prepared and successfully access postsecondary opportunities. Program services are free for ETS students and offered during and after school.
The ETS staff visits middle and high schools to provide workshops and activities on the following topics.
Middle school students
- Precollege advisement
- Financial aid awareness
- Career exploration and research
- Transition to high school
- Parent information workshops
- College options
- Study skills, learning styles and test-taking strategies
- Life skills, such as goal setting, time management, self-esteem and peer pressure
- College motivation
- Enrollment in college preparatory courses during high school
- Referrals to academic tutoring
- Field trips to universities, museums and cultural events
High school students
- College advisement (University of California system, California State University campuses, private schools, community colleges, and trade or vocational schools)
- College application assistance (University of California system, California State University campuses, private schools, community colleges and out-of-state colleges)
- Student transcript and test score evaluation
- Career exploration
- Financial aid application assistance
- Scholarship research
- Learning style assessment
- Study skills, test-taking strategies, note-taking skills and time management

- Saturday Academy (monthly preparatory classes in mathematics, literature, writing and study skills)
- Six-week summer enrichment program (instruction in mathematics, laboratory science, literature and foreign language)

- Life skills, such as goal setting, peer pressure, writing a resume and interviewing for a job
- Transition to college
