Programs
Since 1971, the department has been offering degrees in Urban Studies and Planning. It consists of a faculty engaged in various interdisciplinary aspects of the field, including:
- Urban Design and Land Use Planning
- Environmental Planning and Analysis
- Economic Development Planning
- Community Development
- Transportation Planning
- Housing and Real Estate Development
The Department of Urban Studies and Planning prepares students, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, for professional careers in urban studies and planning. It provides a broad-based educational experience, set in the context of social sciences, that develops informed, thoughtful, and capable individuals prepared to contribute to society. The department's faculty supports the mission through teaching, research and publication, community outreach, and university service.

Graduate Program
Candidacy Status was granted by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) effective January 2026 to both Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Planning and Master of Urban Planning degrees. Candidacy Status is a formally-recognized two-year term that precedes an initial granting of accreditation.
