Below we have collected a variety of mental health, wellness, and substance use prevention resources for you. Here you can find hotlines, treatment, and counseling information, as well as prevention information on topics such as alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.


Mental Health

We have collected information about crisis hotlines, as well as different campus-based mental health services, all free of charge to CSUN students.

If you would like to talk to someone about a mental health or drug-related issue immediately, you can contact a hotline 24/7 for confidential advice!

Note: If you or someone else is experiencing a potentially life-threatening situation and is in need of immediate attention, call 911. You can also call the CSUN campus police at (818) 677-2111.

Crisis Text Line — Text HOME to 741741 from anywhere in the US 24/7 to text with a trained crisis counselor. Text, chat, or WhatsApp options available. Crisis doesn’t just mean thinking about ending your own life.  It’s any painful emotion and anytime you need support. 

LGBTQIA+ Suicide Prevention — If you are struggling, you can call or chat with the confidential, 24/7 Lifeline (1-800-273-8255).

SAMHSA FREE 24-hour National Helpline 1-800-662-HELP (4357) — SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline - If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can chat with a 988 Lifeline crisis counselor 24/7 by:

Don’t want to schedule regular counseling, but still want to talk to someone? Whether it is stress, sadness, difficulty adjusting to school, academic concerns, or relationship or family problems, sharing your concerns with another person can make a positive difference. 

Let’s Talk counselors can talk through your issue with you and help you determine the best way to get help. Let’s Talk provides easy access to informal consultations with counselors from University Counseling Services during drop-in consultation hours at sites around campus throughout the week: DREAM Center, Athletics, Pride Center, Black House, International and Exchange Student Center, Oasis Wellness Center, and Student Housing.

CSUN SRC Group Exercise Classes — The SRC offers a variety of Yoga classes throughout the week. If you want to sweat, or just relax - there is something for everyone.

CSUN SRC Learn the Basics Workshops — Learn the Basics workshops are offered by the SRC during the first two weeks of the spring semester specifically designed to teach you the most common movements performed in a Group Exercise Class.

Loving Kindness (Metta) Meditation — free online Metta meditation, recorded and with written instructions.

Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) — Perfectly Here offers UCLA-developed courses in Reseda.

Free online Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course

Free Daily Online Group Meditations (zoom) Meditate Together from MindfulLeader.org provides free 30 minute drop-in online group meditation sessions, on the hour, 24 hours/day, every weekday from Monday, 1AM ET to Friday, 12AM ET, facilitated by 100+ volunteers worldwide. The intention is to help keep us connected in a time of great isolation, to help us stay calm during a time of great anxiety, and to give us an opportunity to support one another.

Social Wellbeing

At CSUN there are many different ways you can connect and socialize with other students; find like-minded people through a club or organization, or help others through volunteering or as a peer educator.

Student Housing — Get Involved — There are many opportunities to get involved in Student Housing at CSUN. Whether you are interested in student advocacy, planning events, gaining support or just being social with your peers, there is something for everyone.

 

The CSUN G.A.R.D.E.N - Looking to make a difference in your community alongside other passionate people? Excited to learn more about working with plants and sharing your knowledge with others? Volunteering at the G.A.R.D.E.N. is a flexible opportunity to explore your passions and interests as we fight food insecurity and play an active role restoring our local ecosystem.

The CSUN VITA Clinic- join the CSUN VITA Clinic as a VITA Volunteer: once certified as VITA volunteers, students are assigned to serve in one of our many tax preparation sites in Los Angeles.

Unified We Serve,the volunteer program at CSUN, is an opportunity offered by the Matador Involvement Center for students to participate in furthering their education through serving the community.

The Blues Project is a peer education volunteer program to promote awareness and education about depression and suicide prevention. 

MenCARE (Creating Attitudes for Rape-Free Environments) is a campus-wide prevention program to end sexual violence through education, cultural change, and leadership development.

Joint Advocates on Disordered Eating (JADE) is a peer education program dedicated to the awareness around body image and to the prevention of eating disorders.

Matadors 4 Wellness Peer Health Educators  — conduct health presentations to classrooms, residential life, clubs and organizations.
