The 2024–2025 academic year was a powerful reflection of what’s possible when students lead with purpose and community drives progress. From record-breaking voter turnout and expanded cultural programming to system upgrades and a renewed focus on equity and inclusion, Associated Students (AS) worked to meet the evolving needs of CSUN’s diverse student body. This year, we deepened our commitment to access, sustainability, and student-centered leadership—ensuring that every program, event, and initiative reflected the voices and values of our campus. This annual report celebrates those efforts, highlights the milestones we’ve reached, and offers a look ahead at how we’ll continue empowering Matadors for the future.

Staff Accomplishments and Contributions:
- Tuition Reimbursement Program: 6 employees and 1 dependent participated.
- Leadership: John Doebler, HR Manager, served on the AOA Executive Committee and participated in a workgroup to evaluate the annual conference's value to members.
- Professional Development: Cindy Cerna, HR Coordinator, completed coursework toward a SHRM Professional Certification; exam scheduled for FY 25/26.
- Student Assistant Hired: Addition of a Student Assistant has alleviated department workload, especially for the HR Coordinator.
Accounting and Finances
Associated Students (AS) Accounting and Financial Services provides many amenities to all CSUN students, especially when it comes to clubs and organizations. AS Accounting and Financial Services works with CSUN-recognized clubs and organizations by handling agency (club) accounts and AS-budgeted accounts when an allocation has been approved by the senate.

- Worked with Student Leadership and the Finance Committee to revise the Associated Students Code On Finance to make it coherent and straightforward for readers.
- Worked with the Finance Committee to increase travel funding allocations to allow student clubs and organizations to maximize their reach and presentation opportunities to show case the university

Children's Center
The AS Children’s Center is a high-quality early childhood development program that provides a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. The program promotes each child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Daily activities foster each child’s development to their fullest potential.

Staff Accomplishments and Contributions:
- At the Children’s Center, we are intentional in creating an inclusive and culturally responsive environment that reflects and respects the diverse backgrounds of the children and families we serve. Our classrooms integrate children's books, visual materials, and learning experiences that highlight non-traditional gender roles and promote equity. For example, we include literature and classroom images that portray individuals in a variety of roles, challenging gender stereotypes and broadening children’s understanding of possibilities.
- Dress-up areas are thoughtfully stocked with clothing and props that encourage imaginative play across a range of identities and professions, free from gender norms. Our classroom environments also feature photographs, artifacts, and materials that reflect the cultures, languages, and family structures represented within our center community.
- In addition to daily inclusive practices, we host an annual multicultural celebration that honors and showcases the rich diversity of our families. This event invites participation from families and staff , fostering a sense of community and mutual respect. Our personnel are reflective of the campus’s diverse population and are actively engaged in all classroom and center-wide activities, supporting a welcoming and affirming space for all children and families.

NUMBER OF MARKETING CAMPAIGNS (INCLUDING NON-AS)
The Marketing Department has ran over 80+ successful Marketing campaigns over the past year.
STAFF ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS:
- The Marketing Department has had a lot of great things to report about from this past year. We have run successful campaigns for new and recently revived AS events - such as: Save the Bees, Sol Fest, and Paint and Plant, to name a few, all while continuing to Market yearly events such as the Farmers Markets, Big Show, Big Comedy and Big Lecture. Our Big Comedy and Big Lecture events both sold out and the attendance for our Big Show event was an increase based on shows in the past.
- The Marketing Department has also been successful in making a ton of Video content to not only promote AS in general, but to also promote specific AS Departments. We filmed a new mini-series titled "The More you Know," that followed the AS Vice-President around the different AS Departments and showed off the wonderful resources or events we as an organization put together. We have continued to make a lot of fun content to fill the page just so students have something fun to watch, from TikTok trends that apply to our organizations or funny bits that help students laugh and check out, such as the Auto Complete Interview with AS President Katie Karroum. We have also made really successful commercials for events, like the Deorro Big Show Announcement, the Summer Movie Fest Lineup Trailer, and the recaps for our big events.
- Our presence on Social Media has continue to grow over the year and we have continued to receive tons of great feedback from the students on campus and our fellow campus partners, including the main CSUN Marketing team. Our social media following has continue to grow as well and has increased we have from 14,809 at the beginning of the year to a following of 16,681. We have also started to do collaboration posts for our Hot Seat episodes where we have partnered with CSUN Apply and CSUN Giving Day this past year to help promote their events and enrollments. We are going to continue to be open to collaborating with other campus partners and have already started talking with CSUN Athletics in a collab Hot Seat episode for the Fall Semester.

AS Information Technology
IT Highlights
- Two of our student assistants, Matt Mirbasoo and Suzy Avanisian, graduated this semester and have already found their first post-college jobs. Matt is at the City of Burbank Police Department's IT division, and Suzy is at a managed IT service provider (MSP) based out of Calabasas.
- Pat Speers was voted in as the Vice Chair of the AOA IT Committee for 2025 and is serving on the AOA Conference Planning Committee.
- Calvin Yun is continuing service to the AOA IT Committee as Chair for 2025 and serving on the AOA Executive Committee as well as an observer on the CSU system-wide Information Security Advisory Committee.
- AS IT has successfully established and implemented an internal change control process to improve communication, transparency, and continuity.
- In an ongoing effort to minimize downtime for our users, AS IT has been working with our partners at CSUN IT Desktop Architecture to improve our mobile device management.
- In collaboration with our partners at USU RES, we have successfully live streamed all of AS' 2024-2025 Senate Meetings from two different venues.
- Calvin Yun has obtained the CompTIA A+ certification for IT support.
- Led a successful IRA Annual Budget Request system with minimal disruptions.
- Implemented an internal change control process for enhanced communication and transparency.
- Partnered with CSUN IT Desktop Architecture to improve mobile device management.

Outdoor Adventures
Since 2008, CSUN Outdoor Adventures (OA) has been providing unique recreational opportunities to the CSUN community. Through our Wilderness Outings, RIDGE Rockwall, rental center, team building program, workshops and clinics, Outdoor Leadership Program, and most recently Camp Matador, we provide awe-inspiring, transformative experiences to more than 6,000 students each year.

Staff Accomplishments and Contributions:
- Outdoor Adventures was successfully re-accredited for six years by the Association for Experiential Education. This recognition followed comprehensive site visits, policy reviews, and staff interviews. The review commended the program’s commitment to quality, risk management, and alignment with professional standards.
- Wilderness Medical Certifications:
- Both the Manager and Coordinator re-certified their Wilderness First Responder (WFR) credentials.
- One Student Trip Leader also earned a WFR certification, strengthening the team’s safety and readiness.
- Both the Manager and Coordinator re-certified their Wilderness First Responder (WFR) credentials.

Productions
AS Productions brings the Matador spirit to life! From concerts to farmers markets, lectures and movie nights, Productions aims to bring quality events to CSUN Students & the community. Productions provides students memorable and iconic opportunities to make the most of their college experience here at CSUN.

Sport Clubs
The Sport Clubs program provides CSUN students an opportunity to participate in regionally and nationally competitive sports and recreational activities. The program is designed to allow each CSUN student a chance to participate in a sport club individually or as a member of a team.

SPECIAL AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS WON:
- Archery: only CSU to have shooters place into the nationally-renowned "All-American Academic Team", first in club history. At indoor nationals Jennifer Foster placed 9th nationally and Christian Quindipan placed 6th nationally. Regionally, the men's barebow team won silver and Placed 8th out of 17 schools in the west region.
- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Won the past two team belts at the regionally competition, accruing 4 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 6 bronze at the most recent competition.
- Cheer: All girl placed 2nd and Coed finished top 5 at the USA Collegiate Championships. Coed placed 2nd at NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL.
- Esports: League of Legends finished 6th nationally, Rocket League placed in the CCS Championship and made nationals, Valorant placed 4th nationally, Smash placed 7th in PlayFly's Smash Bros Playoff Tournament, Overwatch Teams finished 2nd and 10th in the Facelt League.
- Men's Rugby: Golden Coast Conference Division 2 champions.
- Men's Soccer: Finished 2nd in the Aztec Cup and Director's Cup, finished 3rd in the Open regional playoff.
- Men's Volleyball: A-team finished 2nd at the Las Vegas Classic tournament and the B-Team won Gold in Division 3AA at nationals.
- Swim: Placed 6th overall at the UCLA Fall Invite.
- Tennis: placed in silver bracket at Berkley tournament.
- Women's Soccer: 2nd place in league, 3rd place in the UCSD tournament, and 4th place in playoffs.
- Wrestling: Women's team placed 2nd in annual quad dual.
Department Accomplishments and Contributions:
- We transitioned to a new software and are the pilot school working with the software developer to break into the club sports/campus recreation space
- Hired our new Sport Clubs Coordinator, Ireland McGuire
- MSN Executive Producer was awarded AS Student Staff of the Year
- Phillip attended the SWATA Conference.
- Joyce earned CES Certification.
- Ireland and Dustin attended the NIRSA Annual Conference.
- Dustin also participated in the Higher Education Summit in Dallas, TX.

Sustainability
AS Sustainability's main goal is to educate, support, & participate in various sustainability projects on CSUN's campus. Some of AS Sustainability events they host include: Earth Fair, Refill & Repairs, Virtual Trash Talker Series, Thursday Thrift, and other events.

Department Accomplishments and Contributions:
- In the spring semester alone, we have diverted over 2400 plastic containers from the landfill due to our Refill & Repair events and Earth Fair event.
- Hosted 6 Refill & Repair events (over the academic year) with over 87 gallons of soaps, shampoos, & conditioners for the campus to take advantage of.
- AS Sustainability collaborated with 25 CSUN affiliated vendors, including: various AS Departments, the Institute of Sustainability, CSUN Facilities services, Physical Plant Management, Sustainability Club, and more.

The Student Government division of Associated Students (AS) represents the student body, advocates its needs and defends its interests in dealings with faculty, campus administrators and government officials.
Student Government is comprised of student leaders who seek to provide the ultimate college experience and uphold the mission and vision of AS Student leaders encourage shared governance, student advocacy and collaboration with other campus and community entities.

Student leaders participated in 40 non-AS committees, including the Academic Calendar Committee, Academic Grievance and Grade Appeals Board, Academic Technology Committee, CSUN Foundation Board, Social Justice Scholarship Committee, The University Corporation Board of Directors, University Planning and Budget Group, and the USU Board of Directors, among many others. In addition, AS student leaders were actively involved in various campus-wide search and screen committees.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND WORKSHOPS:
Student leaders received training covering a range of topics, including the history of Associated Students, parliamentary procedure, AS finance and fiduciary responsibilities, event planning, CliftonStrengths, AS operations, legislative referrals, and more.

Ticket Office
The AS Ticket Office offers ticketing services for nearly all campus events, from athletics and comedy to theater, music and more. Discounted tickets to local movie theaters and theme parks are also available.
TICKET OFFICE HIGHLIGHTS
- Sold 36,000 tickets totaling $344,340 for 250 CSUN events.
- Sold 1,744 transit passes, including 1,564 U-Passes.
- Sold a total of 1,741 Big Show tickets.
- Distributed all tickets for Big Lecture: Featuring Josh Peck and Big Comedy: Featuring Troy Bond.
- Sold over 12,000 theme park and movie passes in person, over the phone, and online.
- Sold 1,773 transit passes, including 1,564 U-Passes.
